Liverpool fans were hungry for more January spending after their FA Cup elimination at the hands of West Brom on Saturday.

Since their scintillating victory over Manchester City, Jurgen Klopp's men have suffered defeats to the Baggies and then bottom-of-the-table Swansea City. It seems the arrival of Virgil van Dijk hasn't been enough to steady the ship on Merseyside.

One things that Kopites want in particular is a replacement for Philippe Coutinho. The Reds' talisman left the club this month to fulfil his dream move to Barcelona and to the tune of £142 million.

Nevertheless, Klopp has insisted that Liverpool's spending is all done for the month.

When asked whether he'll spend again in January, the German stated: "It's not really likely. Should I say 100 per cent no? But that would kill all the rumours and I don't want to do that.

"Come on, we should enjoy it another five days."

The chase for Thomas Lemar

It seems highly likely that Liverpool will make their long awaited move for Thomas Lemar in the summer, though. The Reds have tracked the Monaco star for two consecutive transfers windows and have only recently baulked at a €90 million asking price.

There will be hopes that the Monaco valuation falls at the end of the season but Liverpool will want to wrap up a deal before the World Cup and any potential fee-rising performances.

Another Monaco attacker in the mix

However, according to the Mirror, Liverpool fans can at least be buoyed by the fact they're in for another member of Monaco's attacking line-up.

The man in question is Keita Balde who plays alongside Sadio Mane with Senegal.

Aged 22, Balde enjoyed four very successful years at Lazio before making a high-profile move to Monaco in the summer in a deal worth around €30 million. He has made 19 appearances at the Principality side so far and has five goals to his name.

Nevertheless, Monaco sporting director Michael Emenalo has been tasked with buying low and selling high with Balde one of the players involved in the project.

Liverpool and Arsenal are the two Premier League clubs on high alert to the news.

Old club Napoli are also in the mix but won't be able to command the financial muscle, which is so crucial to Emenalo, that the English sides possess.

Liverpool could sculpt a new version of the 'Fab Four' by signing Balde whose experience playing alongside Mane could prove an exciting proposition.

Pace, skill, goal scoring and youth - he certainly sounds like a Klopp player. Only time will tell whether the German will continue the spending, though.
