Last night at the Royal Rumble, the Men's Royal Rumble match had several surprise entrants including Adam Cole and NXT Champion Andrade "Cien" Almas from NXT, as well as The Hurricane, but no one received a bigger pop in their return than Rey Mysterio.

Upon entering the Men's Royal Rumble match at the 27th spot, The Master of the 619 made his WWE return for the first time since 2015, his first WWE match since he faced Bad News Barrett on the Monday Night Raw following WrestleMania 30 in 2014.

Mysterio didn't exactly have the best of relationships with the WWE when he left the company in 2015, as they had extended his contract without his approval when he wanted to leave. Nevertheless, it looks like those problems are now behind him.

Rey competed in the Royal Rumble match on Sunday night for just under nine-and-a-half minutes, eliminating Cole in the process, before he was later eliminated himself by Finn Balor after he, of course, executed a couple 619s for the fans' enjoyment.

He was also involved in a cool moment between the superstars of the past and the superstars of the future, as he alongside John Cena and Randy Orton stared down Balor, Roman Reigns, and Shinsuke Nakamura in the middle of the ring before The Demon King eliminated him.

Many fans are now questioning if Mysterio has now returned to the WWE, or if his Royal Rumble appearance was just a one-off. Speaking to WWE after the Royal Rumble match, he didn’t reveal anything about his future with the company.

He said: “It’s incredible. It’s been almost three years since I’ve heard that WWE fan reaction and to be honest with you, a lot of people say it’s luck and a lot of people say it’s awesome to hear that but I’ll tell you, I’m truly blessed.

"I’m truly blessed to come back and realize the fans don’t forget about you, and not only the fans but the WWE family. This is a universal reaction and it feels good, it feels great.”

Over at PWInsider, however, they have reported that his appearance was put together just over the last week and it's just a one time thing as of writing. It doesn’t mean he won’t be making more appearance anytime soon, but for now, don't expect anything more from him.
