Chelsea's search for a big target man appears to have landed them at the feet of Arsenal's Olivier Giroud. After ridiculous rumours linking them with Andy Carroll, Peter Crouch and Ashely Barnes, Antonio Conte could be on the verge of landing a sizeable striker with genuine quality. The French International has played a bit-part role this season due to the £52m arrival of Alexandre Lacazette - although Giroud does keep the former Lyon man out of the France side.Nevertheless, he is still one of Arsene Wenger's most dependable attacking weapons, with the manager regularly calling on him to bail the Gunners out of some sticky situations. So, why would they offload him to one of their direct rivals?Well, it is hoped that it will allow Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to join Arsenal, with Borussia Dortmund getting Michy Batshuayi in return and Giroud moving to Chelsea in his place. But, Arsenal Twitter has made a point which doesn't exactly make the Giroud deal look great for Arsenal.

ARSENAl FANS REMEMBER DEMBA BA

Back in 2013, Chelsea's Demba Ba was on the verge of sealing a deadline day loan move to the Gunners, before the Blues decided they wouldn't sell to a direct rival.

Safe to say, Arsenal fans wish Wenger would act in the same manner.

TWEETS

It's certainly a valid point, one which reflects the selling mentality of Arsenal.

The Gunners have already lost Alexis Sanchez to Manchester United in this window, so why antagonise the supporter base further by selling a true fan favourite?

Surely, a short-term loan deal for the rest of the season would be a far better option for Arsenal.

Giroud would get more game time to assure himself of a prominent role for France at the World Cup, while Wenger wouldn't lose a top-quality player on a permanent basis.

It had been rumoured that Giroud was wanted by Dortmund to replace Aubameyang and if that was the case, Arsenal have missed a trick by not letting him go abroad this January.
