Tahith Chong isn’t even a household name in his own home yet but, judging by what Manchester United fans witnessed on Monday night, that could all be about to change. The youngster, who arrived at Old Trafford from Feyenoord in July 2016, produced a hugely impressive performance on his reserves debut against Tottenham.Although United’s Under-23 side slumped to a 3-1 home defeat, leaving Ricky Sbragia’s men bottom of Premier League 2 Division 1, Chong looked outstanding - the star performer in a team which also featured the supremely-talented Angel Gomes.Jose Mourinho was in the stands to watch the club’s youngsters take on their north London counterparts. And of all the United players on the pitch, it’s Chong who surely would have caught the eye of the Portuguese tactician. The Netherlands Under-17 international, instantly recognisable thanks to his Carlos Valderrama-esque hairstyle (ask your parents, kids), not only scored United’s consolation goal but also impressed with his work rate and attitude.

Furthermore, the teenager’s performance was made all the more impressive by the fact this was only his seventh appearance at all levels since spending 10 months on the sidelines through injury.

Serious talent.

The fact he’s wearing the club’s iconic No. 7 shirt suggests Sbragia and other youth coaches at Old Trafford believe this kid has a big future ahead of him.

What United fans have been tweeting about Chong

As you can probably imagine, United fans are now very excited about Chong’s future after this superb individual performance…

Here's what else we know about Chong

So, what else do we know about Chong?

Well, he first alerted United’s interest a couple of years back at the Premier Cup, which was held at United’s Aon Training Complex.

He didn’t make the decision to leave Feyenoord, the club he’d been with since the age of 10, lightly - but he eventually decided that Old Trafford would be the best destination to continue his development.

"I am definitely impressed by the club," he told the Dutch press at the time, per the Red Devils’ official website. "United have good accommodation for youth players and it is up to me to make that step. My parents will go to England and it's good to have their support there."

Everything seems to be working out very nicely at the moment - for both Chong and Man Utd - so don’t be surprised if we see the 18-year-old make a first-team appearance in the not-too-distant future.
