After being anticipated since the morning after the first fight, now it’s official.
Saul Alvarez, aka Canelo, and Gennady Golovkin, aka Triple G, will meet again on May 5, live on HBO pay-per-view.
Alvarez (49-1-2, 34 KO) and Golovkin (37-0-1, 33 KO) clashed last September, leaving the taste of unfinished business as the judges controversially scored the fight a draw, although most of the viewers believed GGG dictated the bout and did enough to win it.
Given that outcome, the rematch was imminent.
And, it's hard to think of a better date than Cinco de May - a day that commemorates the Mexican Army's unlikely victory over the French Empire of Napoleon III at the Battle of Puebla in 1862.
Canelo, the 27-year-old Mexican, is the one to prove a point. He has to show that the draw was not a gift and he is the better man. He is at the better age, plus he should be more used to the kilos of the middleweight division now and fatigue should not be such an issue anymore.
The 35-year-old Golovkin, on the other hand, got the feeling of being robbed in the first fight. He found it hard to chase Canelo all the time, but did more to deserve the victory. Although many believe he is beyond his peak, GGG is eager to show his Mexican style and KO Alvarez.
The fight community is delighted with the news of a rematch. The preview gives us highlights from the first fight, followed by both guys stating they won't need the judges' decision this time.
Boxing fans still have a thing for the judging in their minds, given Canelo's status and scoring history.
Below are just a few of the reactions from the fight being announced, and as you can see, all of them were suggesting the same thing.
The scoring of the fight would be one of the main focus for sure.
Let's hope it really doesn't go to the scorecards this time!News Now - Sport News
