News of Blake Griffin's trade seemed to have given the Detroit Pistons players a lift as they ended an eight-game losing streak with a 125-114 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The team was stuck in a horrible slump which led to the blockbuster deal that acquired the five-time All-Star from the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday.

With the Pistons dropping out of the playoff positions, they needed to make a change to save their season and this move could prove to be crucial.

Even though Griffin didn't play against the Cavs, it was obvious that the mood among the players and in the stands was better and it led to a huge win over a team they'd lost to just days before.

Andre Drummond dominated the Cavaliers as he posted a monster double-double of 21 points and 22 rebounds on the night.

The center could potentially form one of the most devastating frontcourt partnerships with Griffin and he couldn't contain his excitement at teaming up with the power forward.

"I'm excited," Drummond said, per ESPN's Nick Friedell. "It's a new chapter. We've got three new guys coming in, so it's something to really look forward to. Obviously, Blake is a hell of a player, a great passer, as well too, so I'm looking forward to building this new empire with him."

With the two bigs together on the floor, the Pistons could potentially recreate "Lob City" in Detroit, with Drummond occupying the role DeAndre Jordan did for so many years alongside Blake.

But the 24-year-old believes he offers more offensively than Jordan and expects to create more magic alongside his new teammate.

"I think I got a little more to my game than DeAndre does offensively," Drummond said. "But I think it's going to be a lot more fun."

The pair are no strangers to one another as they've developed a friendship over the years having worked out together in Los Angeles during the offseason. They also share the same agent in Jeff Schwartz.

Drummond revealed that he's already spoken to Griffin and can't wait to get started.

"I know Blake very well," Drummond said. "I talked to him immediately after the trade. He's excited to be here, excited to play with us. Obviously when Reggie gets back, he's excited to play with him too."

At 23-26, the Pistons have some catching up to do if they're to claim a postseason berth this year. They will hope to have Griffin in the lineup when they take on the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday and look to start building an exciting new chapter in the team's future.
