Super League returned on Thursday night, but Warrington’s Ryan Atkins will be wishing he could start the new season all over again. The centre certainly knows his way to the line after scoring 171 Super League tries, placing him sixth in the competition’s most prolific try-scorers of all time. But, the 32-year-old had a sleepless night after blowing a certain try in the closing stages of his side’s 16-12 defeat by champions Leeds in their opening game.Spectacular finishes have become the norm in Super League since the authorities took the corner post out of the equation when it came to finishing a try. And, Thursday night saw Atkins attempt something pretty spectacular, and spectacular it was, but for all the wrong reasons. After trying to replicate the competition’s most acrobatic wingers, and failing, the powerful Atkins vowed to stick to what he is good at in future. After leaping off his feet for the try line, Atkins was met with a crunching tackle, sending him off the pitch and denying his team a try.Oh dear, oh dear.Watch the epic fail in the video below.

The outside back could at least see the funny side after the game, as he posted a few tweets onto his official account.

Losing the game made things a lot worse for Atkins, but it seems like he can see the humorous side of the incident.

Don't be surprised if you see him remaining calm when in front of the try lines in the future.

As long as he learns from his mistake, and never tries the spectacular ever again.
