If you've had your eyes on social media in the last week, then you won't have failed to notice that the ever self-promoting 11-time world champion Floyd 'Money' Mayweather has been taunting fans of both boxing and MMA with videos of himself inside a gymnasium Octagon, home to the most brutal form of combat sports.

After his much hyped 10th round Vegas boxing victory over UFC superstar Conor McGregor in August, and pocketing an estimated $100million a piece, with Mayweather closing in on a billion dollar career, another retirement loomed for boxing's 'Pretty Boy'.

However, it seems the now 40-year-old still can't tear himself away from the limelight.

Fans of both sports had considered the chances of a rematch in McGregor's backyard of the Octagon somewhere between highly unlikely and zero.

Casual supporters and pundits alike agreed that Mayweather would suffer an embarrassing and painful defeat.

With a 50-0 record in the ring, it was incomprehensible that he would dare to taint his legacy, nor does he need the money.

Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has suggested to Fighhype that Mayweather is a showman and far too smart to genuinely consider a bout with any professional MMA athlete, let alone 'The Notorious' McGregor.

"If Floyd Mayweather goes into the UFC ring, you may never see him again," said Hearn.

"He would get absolutely crushed. He's one of the greatest fighters of all time, but I'm guessing he's playing. He’s too smart for that. He’s a very smart guy. He’s too smart to go into the Octagon.”

Mayweather is famed for his love of hard cash and is never shy in flaunting his wealth.

Will yet another $100million dollar payday prove too much to resist for the five-weight world champion? Or is he simply having fun whilst keeping himself relevant and in the public conscious.

With just three months to go until the much anticipated May 5 rematch between Saul Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin after their controversial September draw, maybe 'Money' is even looking to upstage the pair and pocket some of their PPV 'greens'.

Fans will wait with baited breath.
