Swindon's automatic promotion hopes suffered another dent as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Walsall.

Steve Jones fired the Saddlers ahead shortly before the interval, converting Alex Nicholls' cross from close range.

Charlie Austin chested home Scott Cuthbert's 55th-minute corner to rescue a point for the Robins, but they were unable to find a winner.

Swindon enjoyed the better of the first half, but it was Walsall who came close to breaking the deadlock in the 13th minute as Clayton McDonald's header forced David Lucas into a stunning save.

Stephen Darby wasted a chance for Swindon prior to Jones' opener and the Robins created several further opportunities after the interval, only to be denied victory by a combination of wasteful finishing and excellent goalkeeping from Rene Gilmartin.
