An Alexis Sanchez banner appeared at half-time

There was an incident at half-time that attracted a great deal of interest on social media.

All of a sudden, a banner that featured Alexis Sanchez and his two dogs, Atom and Humber, was unfurled at Old Trafford.

It was removed by stewards

It was similar to the banner that appeared at the Emirates Stadium during Sanchez’s stay in north London.

‘Welcome to Manchester’, the new banner read, but it was quickly removed by Man United stewards.

That makes sense considering the banners that appear inside Old Trafford honour Sir Matt Busby, Sir Alex Ferguson, George Best and Ryan Giggs.

Paul Pogba was dropped

Jose Mourinho showed a ruthless side by dropping Paul Pogba to the bench, with 20-year-old Scott McTominay coming into the starting line-up.

Pogba was hugely disappointing in Wednesday’s defeat to Tottenham Hotspur - he was hauled off in the second half - and Mourinho was ready to hand a start to McTominay.

"In Pogba's place is McTominay,” Mourinho admitted.

“He's been here many, many years in the Academy, waiting for an opportunity. I am giving it to him now and I think today is another wonderful opportunity."

Pogba did appear in the second half, however.

The Portuguese will have been pleased to get back to winning ways following the defeat to Tottenham.

And Sanchez will be delighted to have bagged his first goal.
