If you thought the Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather media circus that dominated late 2016 and the vast majority of 2017 was behind us, you might have to think again.

In recent weeks, talk of a rematch between the two has started to gain momentum, but it seems as though they won't be meeting again in a boxing ring.

Instead, the pair will likely square off inside the octagon under mixed martial arts rules.

If the notion of Conor McGregor taking part in his first-ever boxing match against one of the greatest pound-for-pound fighters of all-time - who now has a record of 50-0 - wasn't ludicrous enough, how about a 41-year-old Floyd Mayweather trying his hand at MMA for the first time ever against the UFC's first ever dual-eight champion?

McGregor and Mayweather have probably mapped out this rivalry from the start. When the first fight was the most lucrative bout in the history of sport period, they'd almost be silly not to do this.

But, will there be the same interest this time around as there was for the first bout?

One man who certainly does not seem interested is WBA, IBO and IBF world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua.

Asked at the fight between Isaac Chamberlain and Lawrence Okolie what he thought about Mayweather giving MMA a go, Joshua seemed irritated by the question.

“I don’t really care about none of that [expletive],” Joshua said to Fighthype.

”I’m not interested in all that [expletive]," Joshua stated. "I want to focus on my own [expletive]. Do you know what I mean?”

AJ has plenty on his own plate with a historic unification fight between two unbeaten heavyweights on the horizon.

Joshua will take on WBO champion Joseph Parker on March 31 at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales, and if he wins, only WBC champion Deontay Wilder will stand his way of becoming the first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis.

At 28-years-old, Joshua is in the prime of his career and has undoubtedly become of the biggest names in the sport of boxing.

While history is his motivation, money, unsurprisingly, appears to be Mayweather's.
