Scunthorpe defender Kenny Milne is a doubt for the home clash with Reading.

The 30-year-old made only his third start in 19 months in Saturday's 3-0 win over Bristol City after a persistent knee problem and will be assessed just before the game to see how he coped with the rigours of a 90-minute match.

If Milne fails to make it, young centre-half Niall Canavan could come into the starting line-up for his third league start since joining last summer.

Marcus Williams is also a doubt after suffering discomfort in his hamstring with Andrew Wright on stand-by to replace the full-back.

The Iron have suffered crippling defensive injuries this season with centre-backs Rob Jones (calf) and Michael Raynes (ankle) still on the sidelines.

Reading will check on Zurab Khizanishvili ahead of the trip.

The defender lasted 69 minutes on his return from a knee injury as the Royals thumped relegated Peterborough 6-0 on Saturday and should be fit to continue.

Matt Mills serves the final game of his four-match ban and Ivar Ingimarsson is out with a hamstring injury so Khizanishvili and Alex Pearce are the only available centre-halves.

Marek Matejovsky is still out after a stomach operation and Noel Hunt and Chris Armstrong remain sidelined with knee problems.

Boss Brian McDermott is therefore likely to stick with the side which equalled their biggest win at the Madejski Stadium.

The Royals need a victory to retain their slim hopes of a play-off place - they are nine points behind sixth-placed Swansea with three games remaining.
