It is fair to say that most of the combat sport world has reacted with a collective groan, at the notion of Floyd Mayweather switching boxing for MMA.

Recent videos have surfaced on Instagram of him peacocking around an octagon, in what is a vain attempt to attract the attention of one Conor McGregor.

In one he wistfully stares off into the distance, as if he’s in a boyband’s video from the early noughties, before briefly stomping around with about as much menace as a petulant child.

In another, he asks bookmakers Paddy Power for the odds of a Mayweather UFC debut in 2018.

Naturally, they responded by giving him 15-2 odds to beat McGregor, whilst the latter had odds of 1-20 against his one-time foe.

McGregor is yet to be drawn into the egregious assertions from Mayweather, but one man who has just spoken about the possibility is Britain’s own boxing legend, Ricky Hatton.

Hatton suffered a heartbreaking defeat to Mayweather in 2007 but remains a popular figure amongst British boxing fans.

And his reaction sums up the collective thinking of most the public right now:

“What a load of b******s”, was his first thought when asked in the video below, which bizarrely captured 'The Hitman' get a haircut.

After a suggestion it was all an act from Floyd, Hatton disparagingly responded: "Yeah, just for show.”

The Manchester favourite then joked he would take on Mayweather in UFC, on one condition. “I would get him in the cage. As long as Joe Cortez wasn’t [the] f*****g ref”.

Unless you would like to watch Hatton get his haircut, skip to 4:10 to see his brilliant reaction:

For those less familiar with Cortez, he is the controversial former referee of several Mayweather bouts.

Generally regarded as overly protective of Mayweather in the ring, his overseeing of the Ortiz bout was particularly contentious. Nevertheless, he was last spotted helping Conor McGregor prepare for his boxing debut versus ‘Money’ last year.

It's hard not to love Hatton when he comes out with one-liners like that!
