All football fans love to make predictions ahead of a new Premier League season.

Who is going to win the title? Who will get a top-four finish? Who will get relegated? Who will be the Premier League top goalscorer?

We all try our best to nail our predictions.

For us normal football fans, our predictions are quickly forgotten about after a few weeks.

However, for pundits, their predictions will remain online forever and can often be brought back up if they get it disastrously wrong - or if they get it spectacularly right.

To be fair, you can’t go too far wrong by guessing who will win the league or who will be the top goalscorer.

But when you try to predict the entire Premier League table, it’s slightly more difficult.

But that’s what Paul Merson attempted to do back in August.

Ahead of the new season, the Sky Sports pundit tried to predict what 1-20 in the Premier League will look like.

MERSON'S PREDICTION FROM THE START OF THE SEASON

And, to be fair, his prediction is looking pretty good.

Here is what he predicted - with their actual league position at the time of writing in brackets.

1. Manchester City (1)
2. Chelsea (4)
3. Tottenham (5)
4. Manchester United (2)
5. Liverpool (3)
6. Arsenal (6)
7. Everton (10)
8. Southampton (15)
9. Leicester (8)
10. West Ham (12)
11. Stoke (18)
12. Crystal Palace (14)
13. West Brom (20)
14. Swansea (17)
15. Bournemouth (9)
16. Burnley (7)
17. Newcastle (16)
18. Watford (11)
19. Brighton (13)
20. Huddersfield (19)

It turns out Merson currently only has two clubs in their correct positions - Man City and Arsenal - but you have to admit his prediction isn’t looking too bad at all.

He certainly rated Southampton a bit too high, and definitely did Sean Dyche’s Burnley a disservice.

But with the bottom of the table so tight right now, the current standings are bound to change quite a lot between now and May.
