It was always going to be a matter of time before Philippe Coutinho started impressing the Barcelona fans.

The Brazilian hadn’t made the greatest start to his Barca career following his £142 million but there’s no doubting he’s a world-class talent.

And his recent form even saw Ernesto Valverde start Arda Turan ahead of him for Barcelona’s Copa del Rey semi-final second-leg clash against Valencia.

The Catalan club had won the first-leg at the Camp Nou 1-0 and knew that victory at the Mestalla would see them progress through to the final.

And, after a goalless opening 45 minutes, the tie was still finely balanced.

But then came the introduction of Coutinho.

He came on for Turan at half-time and wasted no time in making an impact.

Within four minutes, he was celebrating his first goal for the club after a Luis Suarez assist.

The tie was virtually over.

Barca could now relax a bit and that allowed Coutinho to play with freedom. And the 25-year-old did just that. He could see how that goal had settled his nerves and he was suddenly looking like the player we all know and love.

He wanted the ball at all times and made things happen whenever he had possession. He really was a joy to watch.

VALVERDE EXPLAINS WHY HE INTRODUCED COUTINHO

After the match, Valverde explained why he decided to bring Coutinho on for Turan at half-time.

“I saw the change clearly, we had to move things up,” Valverde added.

“Andre was helping us with strength but we needed more going forwards and to do something with the domination we had.

“I normally wait to make changes, but this time I saw it clearly.”
