There aren’t many players who can boast about playing with Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, but Angel Di Maria is one of them.

The Paris Saint-Germain winger spent four seasons alongside Ronaldo at Real Madrid and has been a part of Argentina’s rollercoaster ride with Messi.

Perhaps nobody is in a better position to judge who is the better player.

It’s the debate that will rage on for decades. By now, most football fans have settled on one choice and little either do from here on out will sway their thinking.

The majority of Manchester United and Real Madrid supporters will opt for the Portuguese star; Messi will have the backing of Barcelona’s followers.

Di Maria has picked between Messi and Ronaldo

The neutral must decide whether they prefer Ronaldo’s superhuman-like talents or Messi’s magical abilities.

As for Di Maria? He’s chosen the Barcelona maestro as the number one.

The 29-year-old told TyC Sports that while Ronaldo is a brilliant player, Messi is on another level to everyone else.

“Messi is always the best, he's the best every year,” Di Maria said, per the Daily Mail. “Cristiano Ronaldo's a special player, but Messi's from another planet.

“There are no words to describe Messi, he always surprises you.”

Messi shone against Valencia last night

That’s a pretty apt description of Messi, to be honest.

Indeed, Valencia found out just what the 30-year-old is capable of when he decides to turn it on in last night’s Copa del Rey encounter against Barcelona.

Di Maria was close to Barca move

Di Maria was alongside Messi when Argentina lost the Copa America final to Chile in 2015 and he admitted that he could’ve played with the five-time Ballon d’Or winner at the Camp Nou, too.

There were reports that Di Maria might leave PSG for Barcelona last summer but the transfer never materialised.

“I was really close to joining Barcelona but in the end, it wasn't to be,” he added.

“I started 2018 on a good foot, though, and I am really happy. I like assisting goals more than scoring them.”
