It seems the Cristiano Ronaldo-Lionel Messi debate is as old as time itself.

Ever since Ronaldo dethroned Kaka in 2008, the mercurial pair have dominated football both with their clubs and on an individual level. You couldn't write it - one at Real Madrid and one at Barcelona; one left-footed and one right-footed and an equal amount of Ballon d'Or titles.

The future seems to lie with the likes of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe but no matter their future success, the landscape of football will seem all the more bleaker for Ronaldo and Messi's absence.

After all, the early signs of their future retirements are beginning to creep in. Barcelona are resting Messi more than ever and the goals are beginning to dry up for Ronaldo.

Nevertheless, it seems the approaching years will dictate who bows out of the game with the most Ballon d'Or trophies. On current trajectory, it appears that Messi will take the lead once again.

Team of Ronaldo's vs Team of Messi's

Were that to be the case, it would see a swift turnaround in supremacy with Ronaldo fresh from two individual victories and two Champions League wins.

Another manner in which Ronaldo holds the upper hand, at least now, lies with FIFA 18 as his rating of 94 saw him top of the pile once again.

That isn't the case with PES 2018, though. In Konami's rival game, both Ronaldo and Messi have the same 94 rating and, as a result, one YouTuber sought to find out what would happen if an entire XI of both players clashed.

The ability to edit players and thus create clones on the game made the crazy experiment possible and thanks to 'Rich Leigh', fans can revel in the results. It's fair to say the game was pretty manic, too.

Madness ensues on PES 2018

Funnily enough, neither Messi or Ronaldo were very capable between the sticks or in defence and the goals flew in with almost every attack.

In the end, it was team Ronaldo that took the victory with a last minute strike founding up a pulsating 5-4 win.

Team Messi had more possession during the game and, strangely, played more crosses than Ronaldo despite a substantial height different.

On the other side, Ronaldo's XI accumulated more passes, more shots, more tackles and a greater number of interceptions. The goalkeeper Ronaldo did make fewer saves than his adversary, though.

Absolute scenes.
