Barcelona progressed into the Copa del Rey final with a 2-0 win over Valencia on Thursday night, but all eyes were on January signing Philippe Coutinho.

Having only come on at half-time to replace Andre Gomes, it took the Brazilian just four minutes to make an impact by breaking the deadlock.

Luis Suarez's cross towards the back post found Coutinho, who stretched and sent the goalkeeper the wrong way for his first goal as a Barcelona player.

Ivan Rakitic later added a second to make it 3-0 to the Blaugrana on aggregate and secure their place in the final.

In a post-match interview, Coutinho expressed joy at opening his goalscoring account for Barcelona, made even more special by the assist coming from Suarez.

"I feel happy to have scored my first goal for Barcelona and have helped the team get to the final," said the 25-year-old. "It's a special moment."

COUTINHO'S GOAL VS VALENCIA

Suarez and Coutinho linking up at Barcelona made for sad viewing for Liverpool fans, who are probably getting tired of losing their best players to the Spanish giants.

However, there's something pretty special about Coutinho's goal against Valencia that not many people realised at the time.

Back in February 2013, almost five years ago, Coutinho scored his first goal for Liverpool on his full debut against Swansea City.

And the man who assisted him in the 5-0 win? That man Suarez.

HISTORY REPEATS ITSELF

As if losing Coutinho and Suarez wasn't hard enough, Liverpool fans now have to watch them assisting each other at Barcelona, just like they used to at Anfield all those years ago.

Coutinho went on to say: "The most important thing is the win and the place in the final. This is a very special moment for me, my first final with Barcelona.

"My first goal in Liverpool was from an Suarez assist? Yes, that's true. I hope I can register more with [Lionel] Messi and Suarez."
