Anthony Davis demonstrated to the rest of the NBA on Saturday why he is one of the best young players in the league, as he put on a show for the New Orleans Pelicans in their double overtime win against the Brooklyn Nets, snapping a three-game losing streak in the process. The Pelicans defeated the Nets 138-128 after double overtime in the Barclays Center on Saturday, with Davis being the key man on the court, as he finished with a double-double after scoring 44 points with 17 rebounds. He also had two assists, six steals, three blocks, and he was 16-of-35 from the field. This game managed to go into double overtime despite the fact New Orleans had a 22-point by half time. The first quarter was even topped off by a fantastic shot by the 24-year-old as the buzzer sounded, and it provided an early indication as to how dominant he would be on the night. As you can see in the video further down in this article, the ball came into play inside the Pelicans' half of the court with two seconds left on the clock. Davis had possession of the ball and dribbled it just past the half-court line before taking his shot.As the ball was in the air, the buzzer sounded, but luckily for the forward, the ball landed in the basket, giving New Orleans a 12-point lead by the end of the first quarter.

The Pelicans' lead climbed to as high as 28 points before Brooklyn came back by getting hot on their 3's, forcing the game into double overtime.

Davis said after the game according to ESPN: "You know they live by the 3, die by the 3. They were missing a lot and then they were able to get hot, especially Allen Crabbe. That's how they get back into games. We just wanted to keep fighting, doing what we did to get the lead."

Fortunately for New Orleans, Davis wasn't the only good player for them on the court, as  Rajon Rondo finished the night with a triple-double after scoring 25 points with 10 rebounds and 12 assists.

Nikola Mirotic said of Rondo's performance: "Amazing, amazing. Especially in the beginning of the game, setting the down, driving to the basket. He was the reading the game excellently tonight."

New Orleans coach Alvin Gentry said on his team's performance: "I think it could have been easy for us to just kind cave in when we had the big lead and they came back. But I was really proud of the guys hanging in there and keep fighting and fighting and find a way to win the game."

The Pelicans play next when they host the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday night back at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans.
