Very few Barcelona fans will have known anything about Yerry Mina prior to his £10.5 million move to the Camp Not last month. The 23-year-old centre-back had spent his entire professional career to date in South America, playing for Deportivo Pasto, Santa Fe and Palmeiras. He had also represented Colombia on nine occasions since making his debut in 2016, scoring three goals in the process.Mina was signed by Barça to fill the void left by Javier Mascherano, whose transfer to Hebei China Fortune went through around the same time, and help strengthen the team’s defence ahead of the Champions League knockout rounds.Ernesto Valverde already had two quality central defenders in the form of Gerard Pique and Samuel Umtiti, who is fast establishing his status as one of Europe’s best centre-backs, but with fixtures coming thick and fast around this time of year it was imperative that another top defender was signed to provide back-up alongside Thomas Vermaelen.Mina finally made his long-awaited debut against Getafe on Sunday afternoon, playing alongside left-back Lucas Digne at the heart of defence with Pique and Vermaelen carrying injuries and Umtiti suspended, but how did the Colombian get on?The game finished 0-0, so Mina managed to help Barça keep a clean sheet on his debut, and his performance impressed both fans and the media alike.

How the media rated Mina's performance

The Mirror rated Mina as Barcelona’s star performer - even outperforming Lionel Messi - handing the centre-back an 8/10 rating while elaborating: “The Colombian was excellent on his home debut, impressing at bringing the ball out and shutting down Getafe counter-attacks.”

Mina could prove to be a bargain

Mina is clearly a huge talent, blessed with all the physical and technical attributes required to become a top-level centre-back.

And at £10.5 million - £65 million less than the fee Liverpool paid Southampton for Virgil van Dijk last month - Mina could prove to be one of the best value-for-money signings of 2018.
