The Arizona Cardinals really want to solidify themselves as a Super Bowl contender next season, but to do so they'll need the help of a capable signal caller under center.
Arizona has signed a new head coach in Steve Wilks and he's on the hunt for a young quarterback to groom after longtime veteran Carson Palmer decided to hang up his cleats following 15 seasons in the league.
With the offseason on the horizon just after the Philadelphia Eagles' triumphed win over the New England Patriots at Super Bowl 52, Cardinals team owner Michael Bidwill says his team has a plan for the 2018 offseason.
That plan includes 'aggressively' pursuing a new quarterback for his team (quotes via NFL.com):
"The quarterback thing will come.
"I don't want to sound like we're being cavalier about it but we've got to wait for free agency to start to see who is out there," Bidwill told "Doug and Wolf," on "98.7 FM Arizona's Sports Station" on Tuesday, per the team's official website.
"I know we're going to be aggressive, we're going to have a plan."
Bidwill also doubled down on the trust he has for General Manager Steve Keim. The Cardinals recently signed Keim to a contract extension that will keep him with the team up to the year 2022.
His offseason plan includes leaving no stone unturned; including trade opportunities, pursuing breakout backup quarterbacks like Case Keenum, or other means of signing talent in attempt to replace Carson Palmer.
One hot prospect this offseason for quarterback needy teams is Kirk Cousins. Arizona could also try and save themselves some money by going after Keenum or Teddy Bridgewater.
It's also very possible Arizona tries to answer their quarterback question via the NFL draft. They tried to do this last year as they had their eye on Patrick Mahomes, however, he was scooped up by the Kansas City Chiefs before the Cardinals could select him.
Regardless of what Arizona does this offseason, they need to - as Bidwill claimed - 'aggressively' pursue a new quarterback if they want any hope at making the playoffs.
What are your thoughts on Bidwill saying that he and the Cardinals plan on pursuing a new starting quarterback 'aggressively' this offseason? Do you think Arizona will find their franchise signal caller? If so, will it be via the NFL draft or free agency? Let us know your thoughts on the matter in the comments section below!
