Unless you watch a lot of Ligue 1 or are a Football Manager addict, Presnel Kimpembe probably isn’t a name that many of you were familiar with prior to this evening’s Champions League clash between Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain at the Bernabeu.

The highly-rated 22-year-old started for PSG ahead of experienced captain Thiago Silva in what was undoubtedly a surprise call by Unai Emery.

Kimpembe has, however, played 24 times for the Parisians in all competitions this season and made 62 first-team appearances since the 2014-15 campaign. Emery knows precisely what he’s capable of and clearly trusts him.

The France Under-21 international has won 21 of the 22 games he’s started with PSG this season, meaning he’s also become something of a lucky charm for Emery’s side.

But you might be surprised when you find out how much money he’s earning at the Parc des Princes.

PSG's top 10 earners

L’Equipe - per the Express - recently released a list of the PSG players who earn the most money per week.

They are as follows…

=10. Julian Draxler | £123,000 a week

=10. Marco Verratti | £123,000 a week

9. Dani Alves | £144,000 a week

8. Javier Pastore | £158,000 a week

7. Thiago Motta | £180,000 a week

=5. Marquinhos | £230,000 a week

=5. Angel Di Maria | £230,000 a week

4. Thiago Silva | £270,000 a week

3. Kylian Mbappe | £310,000 a week

2. Edinson Cavani | £320,000 a week

1. Neymar | £630,000 a week

Kimpembe's weekly wage revealed

With those figures in mind, what would you expect Kimpembe, one of the most talented young defenders in Europe, to be earning a week?

At least £70,000? Maybe even £80,000? This is PSG, after all, and Kimpembe has a huge future ahead of him.

Well, it turns out that Kimpembe is currently earning, wait for it, just £40,000 a week.

This is according to the Daily Mail, who reported in November 2016 - when he signed his most-recent contract extension - that his earnings went from £7,100-a-month to £174,000-a-month.

Still an absolute fortune in the eyes of us mere mortals but, relatively speaking, he’s earning a pittance compared to his teammates.

Depending on his performance this evening, you’d have to imagine that a hugely improved contract offer will soon be coming his way.
