Sadio Mane didn't play too bad against Porto, did he?

On a rampant night for Liverpool on Wednesday, the Senegalese made a laughing stock of claims his form had dropped in recent weeks with a mercurial performance at the Estádio do Dragão.

Mane scored a hat-trick in Portugal alongside goals from Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino to earn himself the praise of fans, pundits and his manager alike.

Jurgen Klopp delightfully remarked after the game: "He gave the right answer. That's good. I said to him after the last game 'finally you're back' immediately after when we talked on the pitch.

"Tonight he showed again what a fantastic player he is. He was always important, he was always fantastic for us, even in his not-that-good moments. That's a real quality if you are not 100 per cent and still scoring, maybe not that often but involved in goals then that's really important.

"Then they will come if you keep on working really hard like he did then there can be a moment like this. The first one was a little bit lucky, but then the other two were being in the right place, the second one, and using your fantastic skills for the last one. Good, really good, and I am happy about it."

You can't blame him for being happy, either, and Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher felt exactly the same.

The 40-year-old caught up with Mane at the end of the game for Viasport Fotball in a brilliant interview that went down a treat with Liverpool fans.

There were certainly chuckles when Mane declared his delight at bagging 'the three points' by beating Porto, which is a little difficult in a knockout competition, and the forward even revealed the simple advice Carragher gave him at half-time.

Carragher won't have Pep Guardiola sweating with the advice of scoring more goals but, coincidence or not, it worked an absolute treat.

Mane played fantastically in the first-half yet was even better after the break, moving from a single goal from a goalkeeping error to two goals of downright class.

It took him all of 25 minutes for him to blow Carragher's advice and expectations out the water.

Liverpool fans will have to hope he can maintain the form he showed in Portugal and Klopp will have three excellent strikers in equally brilliant form at his disposal.
