The build up to the bout between Chris Eubank Jr and George Groves is in full-swing and re-emerging footage of a sparring session between Eubank Jr and Carl Froch has added extra intrigue to the contest.

The footage, originally aired in 2014 by Sky Sports as part of their build up to Froch v Groves II, shows how Froch pulled Eubank Jr in for preparation for his rematch against the Londoner.

The sparring footage, and the way that it goes between the pair, is certainly surprising.

The video starts off with Froch's trainer, Rob McCracken, describing Eubank Jr and his sparring. "Great sparring, good fighter, big career ahead of him."

Froch gives credit to Eubank Jr as well: "I had some decent sparring for the last one (Froch v Groves I), but probably not as intense as what I'm having now for this camp.

"He's quite young and ambitious and he brings that aura with him, with his dad turning up and there's a bit of pressure on the sparring and everyone's taking note and it's good to have that pressure in sparring."

Whereas sparring sessions can sometimes lack intensity and aggression, Eubank Jr is seen to be holding nothing back from the start as he looks to take the initiative.

Eubank Jr's approach seems to take Froch by surprise. He is seen to be getting a bit desperate, throwing a right-hander from outside his range, with Eubank Jr waiting for him with a quick left-arm jab through Froch's non-existent guard.

"You can't throw right-handers that far out," his trainer is heard saying in the background.

Things then get worse for the Nottingham-based fighter as he backs away from Eubank Jr's advance, prompting his trainer to shout to him "You should have stayed there. Don't back off, you don't need to.

As Eubank Jr starts to impose himself on Froch with a series of big hits, he pushes him back against the ropes. "Take him backwards" continues his trainer. "Don't let him walk you down. Stay there mate, come on...you pulled out, don't pull out."

As Froch then tries to counter-attack, Eubank Jr. comfortably dodges and blocks a series of punches.

The footage definitely provides a fascinating insight into sparring and the progression of Eubank Jr, as even four years ago, he was giving Froch a run for his money.

This time around, Froch is tipping Eubank Jr to beat Groves, the man he defeated twice, and perhaps with good reason following his personal experiences with him.
