It's that time of year when people get a little overly lovey, share their intimate feelings all over Facebook, singletons get nauseous, and the world sells out to flower, chocolate, and teddy bear manufacturers.

And, in the sporting world, it's no different.

But, instead of it being a loving couples show of emotion, it was two opponents, or more accurately, one opponent to the other, who was getting loved up - sort of.

Phil Lo Greco, Canadian welterweight boxer, took the time to send his upcoming opponent Amir Khan a Valentine's Day message.

In the short video clip, Lo Greco professed his love for two people in his life: his fiancee and fellow boxer Amir Khan.

"Hey mate, love ya. But I'm sorry, on April 21, I'm going to have to break your heart," he claimed, before popping a love heart balloon he was holding.

The bizarre message was obviously meant in gest and fuelled the already raging fire between the two ahead of their April showdown.

In January, Khan was incensed over Lo Greco's comments in a press conference that made an accusation regarding Khan's wife Faryal Makhdoom.

It's well documented Khan has had personal issues over the past few months, and the Bolton-born boxer didn't approve of them being brought back up by his opponent.

No doubt this video appears to be a clever bit of theatrics to help generate more publicity for the fight, which is scheduled the same night as returning featherweight Carl Frampton's fight against Filipino Nonito Donaire, which is billed to be a better watch.

Khan will now have to follow up his water throwing with some hard hitting against Lo Greco as he tries to erase the knockout defeat inflicted on him in 2016 by Canelo, his last competitive fight in the ring.
