Arsenal are reportedly preparing a summer bid for Jack Rodwell.

The English starlet has been linked with three of the big four at one point or another, but Arsenal are now thought to lead the race for the youngster after positive news on the financial front in north London.

Rodwell has been impressive for Everton after returning from injury midway through the current campaign, and transfer speculation surrounding the 19-year-old reached its peak after he came off the bench to score a decisive winner against Manchester United in February.

The Red Devils and Chelsea were both thought to be preparing bids for the youngster at different points this season, and now the Gunners have joined the race after the Daily Telegraph reported that Arsene Wenger is set for a transfer war chest in the summer.

After paying off a development loan of £133 million on Highbury, the Frenchman is expected to receive £18 million this summer with another £27 million coming by the end of next season.

If correct, the news will finally give Wenger a position of strength in the transfer market, with Rodwell the first of a number of potential signings over the coming years.

However, Rodwell won't come to the Emirates on the cheap, and the Gunners might have to pay over £15 million to secure the services of the U21 international.
