After the media circus that was Floyd Mayweather v Conor McGregor back in August, the two are still going strong in the media limelight.

Both fighters have regularly engaged in little spats on social media and recently, a lot of talk has centred on the possibility of Mayweather making the jump to fight the Notorious in the Octagon.

McGregor has often called on the Money Man to do so after he ditched MMA for the boxing ring, but there have been a lot of professional fighters who have been sceptical over the whole fiasco.

The likes of Ricky Hatton, Amir Khan and Chris Eubank Jr. have all suggested that Mayweather's videos teasing the notion of him moving into the UFC are simply to entertain fans.

So, we've heard the verdict from the boxing side of things, but what about the thoughts of the UFC stars?

Well, Khabib Nurmagomedov was asked about McGregor's possible return to the sport and his answer may have dropped a big hint about the possibility of a rematch.

He doesn't name Mayweather, but he didn't really need to with his response.

"I don't think he gonna come back," Nurmagomedov said of McGregor, when discussing his prolonged absence from the Octagon, per TMZ Sports. "When's the last time Conor compete in MMA? Long time. He's boxing guy."

It's a point which certainly hasn't been stressed enough during the rumours of a potential UFC fight.

McGregor has been absent from the sport for around one-and-a-half years and has not appeared desperate to take on any fights.

He still holds the UFC lightweight championship belt, but doesn't appear content on defending it against the likes of Nurmagomedov.

McGregor is likely to be stripped of the belt in the near future, with Nurmagomedov set to go up against Tony Ferguson to claim the vacant reward.

And, his comments suggest that if the Irishman and Mayweather do meet for a rematch, it would probably be in the boxing ring.
