Almost every Premier League club now takes advantage of a break in their schedule by going on a little mid-season trip at some point during the campaign.

You can see certainly see the advantages, especially this time of year.

A bit of warm weather training in a foreign country can help galvanise the squad and improve the team spirit, ahead of the rest of the season.

But not all mid-season trips go to plan and it’s fair to say West Brom’s Barcelona break was a disaster.

Reports suggest that four players - club captain Jonny Evans, Gareth Barry, Jake Livermore and Boaz Myhill - broke a curfew and ‘stole a taxi.’

The Telegraph are reporting that the quartet were out until 5:30am and they might now need to go to court to answer charges.

WHAT HAPPENED TO ALAN PARDEW

But the same report has revealed something else happened that made the trip an absolute nightmare.

It claims that manager Alan Pardew was robbed on Tuesday night after leaving his jacket in a bar - “with thieves taking his wallet and mobile phone.”

What else could possibly go wrong for the manager?

With West Brom currently rock bottom in the table, seven points from safety, Pardew would have been hoping this mini-break would be the catalyst for the Baggies producing a miraculous survival.

Instead, it appears to only have exacerbated things and has put Pardew’s West Brom job in danger.

After reports of the ‘stolen taxi’ emerged, Pardew admitted that he’s “disappointed” with the four players in question.

“They broke a curfew and that’s unacceptable and I feel a bit let down by that,” he said.

“I don't usually set too many curfews and I've had many trips as you can imagine – mid-season, pre-season, end of season with football teams. I've never had an incident before, so yeah, I'm a bit disappointed.”

And Pardew also admits that, in hindsight, the trip to Barcelona might not have been a very good idea.

“In hindsight, after the incident, would I have gone? No. But before, if I knew there was not going to be an incident, would have I gone? Yes I would,” he said.

“We needed to go away and get ourselves right for the run-in. I have done that many times to good effect. This time it hasn't worked out.”

It will certainly be interesting to see how West Brom react in their FA Cup tie against Southampton later this afternoon.

Can they book a place in the last-eight of the competition and forget all about their Barcelona nightmare? Or will their season get even worse?
