The professional wrestling industry is vastly different from the days of the Attitude Era, which is often referred to as the golden days of the professional wrestling industry.

Then you had stars such as The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Triple H, Chris Jericho, Goldberg, Sting, Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan, and so many more. In the 90s professional wrestling was a hot fad with The Monday Night Wars, however, nowadays it's nowhere near the fame it once had.

One man who has been very critical of the way WWE does things nowadays, despite maintaining a good relationship with the company, is WWE Hall Of Famer Stone Cold Steve Austin.

Austin recently hosted an episode of his podcast, The Steve Austin Show, and had Chris Jericho on as a guest.

During the episode "The Texas Rattlesnake" described why he believes today's WWE Superstars are 'walking on eggshells' backstage in the company (quotes via Wrestling Inc.):

"Everybody's walking on eggshells these days just because there's nowhere else to go," Austin professed. "Everyone's just micromanaged to a degree and I'm not indicting the system.

"From when I came in as 'The Ringmaster' and I knew it was a suck ass gimmick, right? But I had a wife, and two kids, and a log cabin on 10 acres. s--t, I've got to pay my bills or they're going to take all my s--t from me, so I'll go up there! I'd already been up to visit Vince twice.

"I knew they didn't have anything planned for me and they were just bringing me in as a mechanic. s--t, that's why I never came!" Austin recalled.

"I knew that wasn't going to work after six months and so, whatever, I started to think about it, drinking beer, whiskey, watching television, and I came up with the 'Stone Cold' persona."

What are your thoughts on Austin claiming that WWE Superstars are walking on eggshells nowadays within the company? How different are things within the professional wrestling business compared to the Attitude Era? And do you think the business was better during the Attitude Era or today? Have YOUR say in the comments section below, and the fourth episode of GiveMeSport’s WWE podcast is here!
