Safe to say it was a night to forget for Manchester City on Monday as they crashed out of the FA Cup against League One side Wigan Athletic.Fabian Delph saw red in the 45th minute for a dangerous tackle on Max Power, with Wigan capitalising by scoring a 79th-minute winner through Will Grigg. And as if losing wasn't bad enough City, star striker Sergio Aguero was involved in a brawl with one of the home fans at the end of the game.Aguero has told his friends that the Wigan supporter spat at him - footage of the incident suggests that was the case, too - which sparked a furious reaction from the Argentine striker. The FA are now looking into the incident, but former Premier League referee Mark Halsey believes Aguero shouldn't be banned for protecting himself, despite lashing out at the fan."I can't see the FA doing anything with Aguero and I think it would be wrong if they did, because he's the innocent party in all this," Halsey told talkSPORT."Anybody would have done what Aguero did. Once you feel threatened and the fans come on the pitch like that, what protection have the players got? They've got none whatsoever."I think Aguero has done what any of us would have done to protect ourselves. Wigan have got to identify this guy and give him a lifetime ban."Wigan should be held fully accountable for what happened at the end of that game with all of those fans coming ono the pitch."Everyone has given their take on Aguero confronting the Wigan fan, but not many have spoken the truth quite as well as former boxer Ricky Hatton.According to Hatton, Aguero was "totally in his right" to protect himself when Wigan fans stormed the pitch and he was attacked from behind. It's how anyone else would have reacted.

Hatton wrote: "What is @aguerosergiokun suppose to do? Hundreds fly on to the pitch. People are coming out of the stands from everywhere & someone grabs him from behind.

"He's totally in his right. Not bitter about the result. Thought Wigan played a good game. Where's the protection."

Well said, Ricky. Just because Aguero is a professional footballer doesn't mean he can't protect himself against fans who attack and spit at him.

Fellow football fans certainly agree with Hatton, as you can see from the below responses.
