It was a very sobering night for Manchester City and Pep Guardiola at the DW Stadium on Monday.

The Citizens' pursuit of a legendary quadruple was brought crashing down as the Latics sealed one of the most famous 1-0 FA Cup wins in the competition's history.

Will Grigg scored from Wigan's only shot on target, with City having 83% of the play and mustering 29 shots on goal despite having Fabian Delph sent off in the first half.

The incident involving the English defender sparked some ugly scenes, with Guardiola and Wigan boss Paul Cook involved in two altercations, one on the touchline and another in the tunnel at half-time.

Guardiola, Paul Cook and apparent 'peacemaker' Peter Reid have all downplayed the debacle in the aftermath, but it certainly raised a few questions.

It seemed like simply a passionate meeting between two managers, but some have said that the likes of Jose Mourinho would have been demonised further for the same thing

Well, those are thoughts which Neil Warnock has echoed when talking to talkSPORT, as the often-controversial manager gave a pretty salty verdict on Pep's behaviour.

You may remember Guardiola having a few words to say about his Cardiff side when the two met in the previous round of the FA Cup.

Think Warnock had that in the back of his mind.

He said: “He gets away with it doesn’t he?

“He had a go at us and he has a go at everybody when things aren’t going well for him. That’s the nature of the game. The big-timers get away with it from the FA.

“If I had done what he did, or said what he said to the fourth official, I would have been reported. Unfortunately that’s life isn’t it. The big lads get away with things and in the lower end you don’t.”

Warnock also believed that Delph's tackle on Max Power was far worse than Joe Bennett's on Leroy Sane, which Guardiola has rigorously complained about.

He added: “If that would have been one of my players against a City player, they would have gone ballistic at us for a red card.

“I think that was a worse tackle than Joe Bennett’s. Joe’s was a clumsy one on his thigh but this was, I think, one of them really nasty ones just above the ankle.

“They are the worst ones to detect and I thought the referee got it right.”
