Yesterday (Mon. February 19, 2018) afternoon just prior to Monday Night RAW it was announced that WWE Superstar Apollo Crews will have the "Crews" removed from his name.He now simply is referred to as "Apollo" on WWE programming. This is a trend that WWE has done in the past. Antonio Cesaro is now simply referred to as "Cesaro" on WWE TV, while Alexander Rusev is now simply "Rusev."This has been done several times over the course of WWE history. There has been some speculation as to why WWE ultimately decided to remove the Crews name from Apollo's character, but perhaps it had something to do with actor Terry Crews. He recently took to Twitter to stated that, while he likes Apollo and respects him, he believes WWE ripped off his name for the character:

One fan on Twitter pointed out that Crews actually approved of Apollo using his name on Twitter several years back by screen shotting the old Tweet. Crews responded by saying "negotiations broke down":

Apollo has been in the professional wrestling industry since 2009. In 2011 he began doing work for Dragon Gate and affiliates for four years. He was eventually scooped up by WWE and signed to a developmental deal.

He spent two years in NXT where he feuded with names such as Baron Corbin, Elias Samson (who has also had his former last name removed and simply goes as 'Elias'), and more.

Apollo has been a great hand in the ring since making his main roster debut, and had a boost in his career when Titus O'Neal took him under his wing and made him a part of Titus World-Wide.

He and O'Neal won a RAW Tag Team Title eliminator on RAW by defeating The Bar. They will challenge Cesaro and Sheamus at Elimination Chamber for the RAW Tag Team Titles.

What are your thoughts on Crews claiming that WWE ripped off his name for Apollo? Do you think that WWE intended to rip off Terry Crews' name to use for Apollo?
