Barcelona's Lionel Messi and Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo have been vying to be the best player on the planet for the last ten years. They've each won five Ballon d'Or's and will surely go down in history books as two of the finest footballers to ever grace the game.Messi, 30, scored the equaliser in Tuesday night's Champions League first leg with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. The Argentine superstar finally broke his duck against the Blues at his ninth attempt to secure a vital 1-1 draw for Barcelona.Much was made of his dismal record against Chelsea in the build-up to their Round of 16 meeting - but Messi silenced his critics the only way he knows how.“We can’t compare anybody [to Messi],” Frank Lampard said on BT Sport after Tuesday night's 1-1 draw.“Well, only Ronaldo compares to him. But I think Messi by the time he has finished will be even higher in numbers.“Thirty-nine hat-tricks, 50 goals a season five times. He’s taken everything to new levels.”

Ronaldo's record v Chelsea

It appears that Chelsea aren't only Messi's bogey team.

442stat.com have produced a very interesting infographic which shows that Ronaldo actually has a far worse record against the Premier League champions than Messi.

The former Manchester United winger has faced Chelsea on 15 occasions but has only managed one goal and two assists.

The minutes per goal/assist statistic is actually quite remarkable.

This says a lot about John Terry, who was arguably Messi and Ronaldo's hardest ever opponent.

However, Ronaldo's only goal against Chelsea did come on the very biggest stage - the 2008 Champions League final in Moscow.

He scored a sublime first-half header in a game which United would go on to win in a nail-biting penalty shoot-out (despite Ronaldo's spot kick failure).

The 33-year-old Portuguese forward is yet to face Chelsea since moving from Manchester to Real Madrid in 2009.

"I've never seen anyone better than me," said Ronaldo, after winning his fifth Ballon d'Or in December. "I have always thought that. No footballer can do the things I can.

"There’s no player more complete than me. I play well with both feet, I’m quick, powerful, good with the head, I score goals, I make assists. There are guys who prefer Neymar or Messi. But I tell you: there’s no one more complete than me."

The vast majority of football fans might disagree with you there, Ronny.
