Manchester United fans were shocked to see Paul Pogba named on the bench for their Champions League clash against Sevilla.Ok, so the Frenchman might be out of form right now but surely the £89 million midfielder should be playing in one of United’s biggest matches of the season so far.Especially when you consider that 21-year-old Scott McTominay was named in his place. Before the game, Jose Mourinho explained why the youngster had been picked ahead of the Juventus star."Because McTominay is working hard every day, he is feeling good and strong, he played the last match for 90 minutes and Paul last Saturday wasn’t able to play and this is the kind of game where I think a player must feel 100," he admitted.“We are going to play with 3 midfielders and Paul can play in one of the two roles where Herrera and McTominay are going to play.

“Paul created some doubt by not playing on Saturday by his own decision, he was not feeling good and that created some doubt.”

But Pogba was given his opportunity to prove Mourinho wrong after just 17 minutes.

Ander Herrera had to be substituted with what appeared to be a hamstring injury and Pogba was introduced.

However, he didn’t quite have the impact he would have liked in the remainder of the match.

Sevilla were the better side throughout and, if it wasn’t for the heroics of David de Gea would have won the tie.

POGBA ANGERS MAN UTD FANS

Instead, Pogba only infuriated many Man Utd fans with his behaviour.

Sevilla had 12 corners during the game and Pogba’s job was to pick up Colombian Luis Muriel.

But on numerous occasions, Pogba was seen chatting to the forward instead of concentrating on defending the corner.

It was something that angered many supporters.

MAN UTD FANS REACT

Check out the reaction:

That’s certainly not one way to please Mourinho. Luckily, United didn’t concede from any of those corners or else Pogba could have been in big trouble…
