Fernando Torres looks set to leave Atletico Madrid when his contract expires at the end of the season after Diego Simeone admitted he won’t fight to keep the veteran Spanish forward at the Wanda Metropolitano. In an unexpectedly frank admission, per Marca, Simeone simply answered “No” when asked by a journalist on Wednesday: "I would like to know if you would be willing to have Fernando Torres stay on for another year.”Simeone’s damning response suggests Torres will have no choice but to leave his beloved Atleti at the end of the campaign. The former Liverpool and Chelsea striker has only managed to score five goals in 27 appearances for Los Colchoneros this season. And he now finds himself further down the pecking order following the return of Diego Costa, who has come in and immediately established his status as a starter alongside the team’s star man, Antoine Griezmann.Torres, who turns 34 next month, is sadly a shadow of the world-class striker he once was - and Simeone understandably feels it’s in the club’s best interests to let him go in the summer.Whether Torres will continue his playing career beyond the end of this season is unclear, although the World Cup winner had dropped no hints that he plans to retire anytime soon.

Surprise club send tweet to Torres after Simeone's admission

You can imagine that a number of decent-sized teams will be in for Torres in the summer - provided he lowers his wage demands - but one club have already made contact with the striker after Simeone’s latest press conference.

Fuenlabrada, who compete in the third-tier of Spanish football and currently sit top of Segunda B Group 1, have wasted no time in sending a tweet to Torres.

"After seeing these declarations, we have something to say, which is that we love you Torres," they tweeted, along with the hashtag of #TorresVenteAlTorres - which translates to #TorresComeToTheTorres in English.

Fuenlabrada’s stadium is actually named after Torres - he was born in the city - and they would love him to join them after leaving Atleti.

Torres has never played for the club

Despite the fact Fuenlabrada’s stadium is named after him, Torres never actually played for the lower-league club.

He joined Atletico’s youth ranks at the age of 11, back in 1995, before making his debut six years later.
