Recent reports have suggested that preseason basketball could be coming to Seattle next season, and for one player in particular, it will be a homecoming, as he was part of the Seattle Supersonics before they moved to Oklahoma City.Ailene Voisin of The Sacramento Bee has reported that the Sacramento Kings and Golden State Warriors will play a preseason game next season in Seattle, but this is yet to be confirmed by the NBA.The two teams will meet on October 6, and it will be the first NBA game in the KeyArena since the Supersonics moved to Oklahoma City after the 2007-08 season and became the Thunder. Of course, Warriors star Kevin Durant used to play for the Sonics, so this will be a homecoming for him.Durant was drafted second overall in the 2007 NBA draft by the Supersonics and played one season there before the franchise was moved to Oklahoma City by owner Clay Bennett shortly after Durant won the 2008 Rookie of the Year. When he heard of the reports that his own Warriors could now be playing a preseason game against the Kings in Seattle next season, he was excited, to say the least.“That would be amazing. Hopefully that goes through," Durant said following practice Wednesday evening to The Mercury News.“I mean the fans of Seattle definitely deserve basketball and that would be amazing. So I’m looking forward to that if it’s true.”Durant has also expressed his love for the franchise that drafted him into the NBA. Prior to Game 4 of the Western Conference semifinals in 2013, Durant wore a backward Supersonics hat at the Thunder’s shootaround in homage to his first professional team.

The Warriors star said: “That Seattle Sonics culture was deep. The tradition is pretty huge and so you see fans that have been there for ages come to a game on a Tuesday and they’re still coming to support. Walking around Seattle, they were always passionate about being Sonics fans.”

The Kings have their own history with Seattle, as the franchise almost moved to the city a couple of years ago. In 2013, the team was nearly sold to a group that would have moved the franchise from Sacramento to the Pacific Northwest.

If this report is true and the Warriors do play against the Kings in the preseason in Seattle, you can almost guarantee that Durant is going to be walking into the KeyArena on that night with some sort of Supersonics attire on to pay homage to the team that drafted him into the NBA.
