You'd be mistaken for thinking Sol Campbell's comments after missing out on the Oxford United job were a wind up.Speaking on Arsenal podcast Highbury & Heels, the 43-year-old remarked: "I did go (for the Oxford job) and they didn't accept me."I'm intelligent enough, it's not like I played on a fox and dog pitch all my life.“I can't believe some people, I'm one of the greatest minds in football and I'm being wasted because of a lack of experience or 'maybe he talks his mind too much'.

"Go to Germany, they love people who speak their minds. They got the jobs. I'm sorry that I've got a mind, but don't be scared of that."

Campbell claimed clubs are 'scared' to hire him

Come again, Sol?

If clubs really are 'scared' to hire him, we're pretty sure it's not for the reasons he's thinking and the proclamation that he's one of the greatest minds in football has gone down like a lead balloon.

Jamie Carragher joined the Twitter community in reacting, even if his post didn't truly represent the sheer bewilderment emanating from fans.

Campbell was one of the best centre-backs in world football 15 years ago, making the World Cup team of the tournament in 2002 and becoming an 'Invincible' with Arsenal in 2004. Off the pitch, however, he has done very little prove himself.

And the 43-year-old's long-awaited response to the backlash has perfectly summed up that disparity.

Campbell decided to tweet photos of him winning the FA Cup with Portsmouth and the Premier League with Arsenal. Impressive indeed - but grounds on which to be hired by Oxford or to be viewed as a footballing Confucius?

Campbell finally responds on Twitter

Check out the post below:

You won't be surprised to hear that Campbell received a backlash and no more so than for a rather embarrassing error in the post.

Instead of saving the photo of him lifting the FA Cup to his camera roll, he took a screenshot of his Google search and didn't fancy cropping it. His entry of 'FA Cup winner portsmouth' certainly looks tragic and fans picked up on it pretty quickly.

Everybody noticed a tragic error in the post

Take a look at the responses:

As far as comebacks go, Campbell won't be winning awards anytime soon and that's saying a lot when he's depicting an victorious season in the Premier League.

Nevertheless, the current situation with Oxford goes to show that his achievements on the picture and the weight of his name won't automatically land him a job.

That's not to say he's a poor coach but, currently, he's no Craig Bellamy.
