Southampton have declined to comment on speculation that manager Alan Pardew's job is under threat.

Chairman Nicola Cortese is reportedly unhappy Saints have missed out on the League One play-offs despite the fact they began the season with a 10-point deduction. Cortese publicly criticised Saints' league form back in February, and despite a late-season surge they cannot finish in the top six.

Pardew did guide the club to their first piece of silverware since 1976 when they won the Johnstone's Paint Trophy at Wembley in March.

But reports claim Cortese was expecting a better return on the £2million Pardew was given in January to spend on players such as Jose Fonte, Lee Barnard and Jason Puncheon.

Pardew's stock among the club's fans remains high, though, and he was even linked with the Celtic job last month.
