Kenny Dalglish is a living legend at Liverpool and with very good reason at that.

Donning the famous jersey between 1977 and 1990, he scored on 169 occasions, won the English fifth division six times, procured three European Cups and justly earned the nickname 'King Kenny.' He then turned his hand to management and hoovered up three more league titles for good luck.

And when Liverpool needed saving in 2011 upon the sacking of Roy Hodgson, Dalglish dusted off his jacket and returned to the Anfield dug-out for the first time in 20 years.

Across one-and-a-half seasons back in the job, he won what endures as Liverpool's only trophy in the past 12 years and came agonisingly close to bagging the FA Cup, too. Ultimately, though, a dire run of results in the league eventually saw him depart after the 2011-12 campaign.

Home defeats to the likes of West Brom and Wigan Athletic, culminating in an eighth place finish below local rivals Everton, saw it a poor campaign for the Reds.

There were numerous reasons behind the poor league performances but one of the most damaging undoubtedly proves Dalglish's signings. The Scotsman did little to improve upon the disastrous summer transfer window of the year before and his captures now look rather ridiculous.

Take a look at the seven players in question:

Charlie Adam

An impressive first season in the Premier League with Blackpool saw Adam make the move to Anfield - scoring twice in 35 appearances. Unsurprisingly, though, he was moved on the next year by Brendan Rodgers and has ticked over at Stoke City ever since.

Doni

Arguably the worst signing of the bunch, Doni was brought in as cover for Pepe Reina and only made four appearances for the club. His most memorable contribution was picking up a red card at Blackburn Rovers in his bag chance to shine in Reina's place.

He hung up his gloves after leaving Anfield.

Jordan Henderson

Yes Liverpool fans, this was as good as it got in the summer of 2011. Henderson has spent the past seven years on Merseyside and is now club captain, despite regularly picking up criticism from Kopites whether you think it's warranted or not.

Stewart Downing

A questionable way to spend £20 million, no doubt, but Downing was procured as an England international and Aston Villa staple in 2011. Two seasons at Liverpool - in which he took five months to score his first goal - was enough for fans as he was moved onto West Ham in 2013.

Craig Bellamy

Nine goals in 33 outings represented a half-decent return for the Welshman who entered his second spell at Liverpool. Nevertheless, he followed in Dalglish's path at the end of the season to drop down to the Championship with Cardiff City.

Jose Enrique

It keeps getting worse and worse, doesn't it? Enrique made a promising start to life at Liverpool and actually spent five years with the Reds, but was reduced to cup appearances after Rodgers' debut campaign and was eventually released in 2016.

Sebastian Coates

Ambitiously held as the next best thing at centre-back for Liverpool, Coates arrived as a 19-year-old but two seasons with the club slammed the brakes on his career. A bicycle kick at QPR proves the only highlight as he now takes residence at Sporting Lisbon, via Sunderland.
