Anthony Davis is not prepared to see the New Orleans Pelicans miss out on the playoffs this season despite the devastating injury to teammate DeMarcus Cousins. The power forward is determined to put the team on his back and lead them to the postseason for the first time since 2015.AD outlined this once again with a dominant display against the Miami Heat on Friday night.Davis dropped an incredible stat line of 45 points, 17 rebounds, five blocks and five steals as the Pelicans secured a 124-123 overtime win.He also had the highlight play of the night as he posterised Dwyane Wade with a vicious alley-oop dunk off a perfect feed from Jrue Holiday.

At his age, Wade can't get up like he used to but he would've struggled to avoid this even in his younger days in the league.

The Heat veteran acknowledged that there isn't much you can do to stop the five-time All-Star when he's playing the way he is.

"Everybody in New Orleans and everyone in the basketball world knows that he is special," Wade said of Davis, per ESPN.

"The only thing we can do is try and make it tough on him, but if you try and make it tough on him he still is going to get 40 points."

The Pelicans superstar was a man on a mission and was not going to be denied a victory.

In a recent interview with ESPN, the 24-year-old stated that he had to go back to the way he played prior to Cousins' arrival and carry the burden for his team.

New Orleans is now on a four-game winning streak and this was the fourth straight game where Davis has posted 38 or more points in each encounter.

Over the 10 games since the injury to his frontcourt teammate, the former number one pick is averaging 32.7 points, 12.7 rebounds, 2.6 steals and 2.4 blocks per game.

"I'm just trying to do my part," Davis said. "When Cous' first went out, I was overthinking. I was trying to do stuff I normally wouldn't do.

"And now I'm just playing -- just playing basketball, playing with a lot of instincts, a lot of confidence and just trying to make the right play, whether it's for me or my teammates."

He's certainly doing all the right things for the Louisiana-based franchise at the moment as they improve to 32-26 in the west.

They face a tough battle with multiple teams to make the playoffs but they'll have every chance of doing so if their star man continues to play at this level.
