Paul Pogba's situation at Manchester United is easily one of the more interesting topics in football right now as his place at the club becomes more and more central to the season.

Just about every angle possible has been covered, purely because a player of his stature impacts everything.

United spent an extravagant amount of money on the Frenchman (at least it seemed that way at the time), setting a world record by paying Juventus £90 million in August 2016.

Things didn't quite go as planned, however - Pogba didn't set the league alight and now, 18 months later, manager Jose Mourinho doesn't consider him a starter.

The inevitable debates over why this has happened have dominated headlines over the past few weeks, with both sides taking negative and positive press.

Tactics, marketing, and Mourinho himself have all come under heavy scrutiny as a result but one more area that could see a huge change is United's transfer strategy.

That's because, according to The Times, the club is discussing cutting its ties with Pogba's super-agent Mino Raiola.

It's alleged that Raiola has been getting involved in club matters, even going as far to tell Mourinho where he should be playing Pogba.

It's a level of interference that can't possibly sit right with the club and whether dealing with the agent could be 'more hassle than it's worth' is being considered.

What it has been worth, though, is considerable to all parties.

United have signed five players through Raiola in the past few seasons: Goalkeeper Sergio Romero in 2015, Pogba, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan in 2016, and Romelu Lukaku last summer.

That's a lot of big-name players that have come through the relationship and it's easy to see why Raiola would consider himself to have some weight at the club.

But now United look set to rely a lot less on the Italian agent who is increasingly gaining a negative reputation in the game.

Raiola also represents AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma but the way he has handled the teenager's future led to Milan fans shunning the player earlier this season.

Still, Raiola remains one of the biggest agents in football, holding a client list that would be the envy of almost any other and leading to relationships like that with United where he can rely on moves for his biggest stars.

It looks like things might not be so simple for either of them this summer, however.
