Arsenal could be planning a double raid on London neighbours West Ham United as the Hammers begin a summer clear out.

The Gunners have reportedly set their sights on West Ham captain Matthew Upson, who spent six of his formative years at Highbury, and vice-captain Scott Parker.

If Arsene Wenger does approach the Irons about both, he is likely to receive contrasting answers from co-owners David Sullivan and David Gold.

Upson has been offered a contract extension but looks to be on his way out of the Boleyn Ground while midfielder Parker is the only indispensable member of Gianfranco Zola’s squad.

Sullivan recently said: "If we get the right bid we will sell any player, apart from Parker," upsetting Zola in the process.

It is no secret that Wenger is looking to boost his defensive options over the summer with news that both William Gallas and Mikael Silvestre could be on their way out of North London.

Paris Saint Germain centre-back Mamadou Sakho is the latest to be linked with a move to the Emirates but Wenger is keen to bolster his ranks with English players and Upson would more than fit the bill.

Other English players linked with a move to North London in the close season include former Hammer Joe Cole, Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart and another centre-back in Bolton’s Gary Cahill.
