Seven years ago in 2011, George Groves stopped Paul Smith in the second round to retain the British and Commonwealth titles. This was a grudge match between a Londoner and a Liverpudlian, with the latter being devastated after his loss.

This win for Groves subsequently gave him a world title shot against Carl Froch which, as we all know didn't exactly go to plan for Groves.

Since then, however, the 29-year-old has rebuilt his career and is closing in on victory in the inaugural World Boxing Super Series.

If he is to win this trophy, though, he will have to overcome the brother of his nemesis from all those years ago, Callum Smith.

That's after Smith comfortably beat Nieky Holzken in Nuremberg on Saturday night.

Holzken, the 34-year-old Dutchman, had the potential to be a dangerous opponent for Smith having been unbeaten from his first thirteen fights, however, was no match for the power and precision of Smith, whose composed left-hand jab left the result never in doubt.

Smith now has the task of facing up against the man who so easily took down his brother.

And as you can see by skipping roughly 7:00 into the video of the full fight from seven years ago below, Callum will be keen to avoid the same fate his brother Paul suffered just two rounds into his clash with Groves.

Of course, Groves is undoubtedly a much smarter boxer now than he was in 2011 and Smith only needs to rewatch the professional performance he put in against Chris Eubank Jr to see the challenge that awaits.

A win here would set up a big unification fight with David Benavidez later this year.

Groves is hopeful he can recover from the dislocated shoulder suffered vs Eubank Jr quickly and get back into training for this fight which is being lined up to take place in early June.

The bookmakers have given both boxers similar odds for the fight; it will be an extremely unpredictable fight, but one which all boxing fans will be looking forward to with great anticipation.
