Celtic extended their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership table with a 2-0 win over Aberdeen on Sunday afternoon.

Moussa Dembele and Kieran Tierney scored the goals as Brendan Rodgers side bounced back following Thursday night's Europa League exit.

Rangers had cut Celtic's lead at the top of the table to six points on Saturday but the Hoops -restoring their nine-point lead - look unlikely to be caught after Sunday's win.

Unbeaten against their arch rivals since 2012, Celtic are set to visit Rangers at Ibrox in a fortnight.

The big talking point from Sunday's 2-0 win over Aberdeen took place in the 85th minute.

Brown's amazing reaction to being hacked down

Sam Cosgrove, making his Aberdeen debut off the bench, found himself sent off eight minutes after coming on for a rash lunge.

With his side trailing 2-0, the 21-year-old striker produced a disgusting challenge on Celtic captain Scott Brown.

“It was a couple of moments of madness," said Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes.

“Big Sam Cosgrove has got caught up in the game, I haven’t seen it again but it looked like a red card at the time."

The 32-year-old midfielder got straight up to his feet and his reaction was one in a million - every other footballer would stay down in his situation.

Brown, never willing to show weakness, was hacked down twice and had the ball smashed at him before he did something truly magnificent.

Absolutely magical.

“Scott is a big game player, especially in those moments," said Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers. "When it goes to 10 men he revels in it even more. Browny is a brilliant leader.

“He takes it, shrugs it off and gets back up again to dominate the game. He’s a big game player.”
