Despite Roy Keane’s notoriously fiery character, it still came as a massive shock when he left Manchester United following a bust-up with Sir Alex Ferguson in November 2005.

Keane’s 12-and-a-half year spell at Old Trafford was brought to an abrupt end, to the astonishment of everyone, just a month after he criticised several teammates in an interview with MUTV which has still never been broadcast.

The talismanic midfielder, who is arguably the greatest captain in the club’s history, seemed untouchable at United. But once he crossed Fergie, that was that.

Keane, who admitted in a later autobiography that he cried in his car after his contract was terminated, never quite forgive Ferguson for the undignified manner in which he departed the club.

And you get the impression that he will always feel a little bitter towards those players who never stood up to Fergie like he did.

Keane's perfect Man Utd XI (from 2013)

This was evident when Keane named his 'dream' Man Utd XI of players he played alongside during his illustrious career back in 2013.

Here’s the team he selected…

There are some laughable omissions, notably Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville - three of Fergie’s favourites.

Paul Parker over Neville is, quite frankly, ludicrous.

On the other hand, he selected a number of players who fell out with Ferguson, including Jaap Stam, David Beckham, Paul Ince and Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Keane, defending his selection, said: “You don’t win leagues titles by having choirboys in your dressing room and all these boys did challenge the manager in different ways.”

Vieira told Keane which player should have made the XI

However, Patrick Vieira, who recorded the ITV show alongside his old foe, couldn’t believe that Keane had left out the player he considers as one of the greatest English players ever.

“Scholes, no doubt about it,” Vieira said, when asked which player he think should have been included.

“I think Scholes was, for me, the best English player and one of the best United players that I played against. He can do everything.”

This is pretty much the only time United fans will side with Vieira over Keane.

There’s no way Ince should have been anywhere near that XI.
