Swansea midfielder Joe Allen is set to have a belated operation on a shoulder injury.
The 20-year-old dislocated his shoulder five years ago when playing rugby at school and will finally go under the knife due to the injury worsening over the years.
"I did not think too much about it at the time because it popped back in," he told the club's official website. "It has obviously been unstable because every time there is contact it causes me a few more problems."
Allen added: "I will be in a sling for a month, which won't be pleasant, but as long as I can get myself back for the start of the new season, I'll be happy."
Head physio Kate Rees, who will oversee the Welsh international's rehabilitation period, added: "The operation is to stabilise the shoulder.
"If everything goes to plan with the rehabilitation programme, he should be back for the start of the new season."
