Carmelo Anthony has had a frustrating season shooting the ball and his numbers have dipped drastically in February as he's struggled to do what he does best. The 33-year-old is shooting a career-low 41.0 percent from the field this year. This month, he's hitting just 36.6 percent and is averaging just 13.6 points per game. The veteran is one of the greatest scorers in NBA history but he's in a situation with the Oklahoma City Thunder that he hasn't been used to throughout his career.Melo has always been the number one scoring option on all of his previous teams but he finds himself down the pecking order in OKC playing alongside Russell Westbrook and Paul George.Anthony has had to accept his role as the third wheel which means fewer touches of the ball and fewer shots. After practice on Tuesday, he was asked why he hasn't been able to make as many shots as he probably should.“S—, I don’t know. If you were you, I don’t think I would never have the same numbers as I’ve had before just due to the changing of the roles being a part of this team, not having the ball as much in my hands and being a facilitator,” Anthony said, per Fred Katz of the Norman Transcript.

“Being able to predict when I will shoot the ball and when someone else will shoot the ball, so a lot of those things come into play.”

Carmelo has often been criticised for taking too many shots and not getting his teammates involved but he's had to change his ways to suit the needs of the Thunder.

He's not used to being a spot-up shooter and hitting a low percentage, but the 10-time All-Star says he's not concerned with his individual numbers and is only focused on the team's success.

“As far as those numbers and the shooting numbers, I could care less about that. In five-to-10 years from now, you guys won’t be thinking about no Melo first year in Oklahoma City shot 34 percent,” Anthony said.

“That’s not something that I’m concerned about. I didn’t come here because I was thinking about having the highest shooting percentage. When it’s time to win, it’s time to win. When it’s time for me to make shots, it’s time for me to make shots.”

OKC has dropped to seventh in the west with a 35-27 record and is locked in a battle with at least seven other teams to secure a playoff spot.

With just 20 games remaining, it could be time for Anthony to start making shots and ensure his team will be participating in the postseason.
