IBO/IBF/WBC/WBA champion Gennady Golovkin admits that he wasn't at peak performance when he fought Mexican boxing star Canelo Alvarez last year.

The pair met inside the squared circle this past September from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, and went all 12 rounds with one another inside the ring. Only one judge gave Golovkin the fight on the scorecards.

One other judge scored the fight for Canelo while the third ruled the bout a draw. The fight was officially ruled a Majority Draw. Right off the bat talk of a rematch was immediately in the headlines.

And that's exactly what's going to happen on May 5th in Las Vegas. Canelo and Golovkin will once again fight to determine who the true king of boxing's middleweight division is.

Prior to their press conference to promote the fight yesterday, Golovkin spoke to the media to offer his thoughts on the rematch.

The middleweight champ said he needs to put on a more dominant performance than the first fight to leave no doubt if the fight goes the distance again (quotes via Boxing Scene):

“I will make it dominant and more obvious this time,” Golovkin said. “I’m not necessarily saying I’ll get a KO, but I would like one. I will do my job in the ring. I cannot control the evaluation of it [judging].

“I’m not going in to prove anything,” Golovkin said. “I have nothing to prove. I just wanna win. I wanna win. I wanna keep my belts. I wanna stay champion.

“I feel good,” Golovkin said. “I still have my power. I feel great. I have all the motivation in the world for this fight.

"This is the two best pound-for-pound fighters, fighting each other. The winner will be the pound-for-pound king.”

What are your thoughts on Golovkin saying that he wants to leave no doubt behind that he's better than Canelo with a dominant performance in their rematch? Do you think that Golovkin will be able to get the better of the Mexican in their second bout? Or will Canelo reign supreme in their second go around inside the squared circle?
