Manchester City's dreams of an unprecedented quadruple were dashed by Wigan in the fifth round of the FA Cup.

Pep Guardiola need not be too worried, as the quest for the treble remains on after the weekend's Carabao Cup final victory over Arsenal.

The Citizens also sit 13 points clear at the top of the Premier League table, which means they could lose four of their last 11 games and still be unassailable.

Nevertheless, while it won't have disastrous effects for their season as a whole, their 1-0 slip-up against the Tics still came as something of a shock.

This wasn't quite Sunderland and Leeds of 1973, but as far as cup upsets go, Will Grigg's second-half winner for the League One outfit was right up there.

Of course, it also echoed the 2013 final, when Ben Watson helped Wigan overcome City at Wembley.

Not only did the champions-elect fail to perform to their usual, electrifying standard, they were also involved in ugly scenes both at half-time and after the game.

Sergio Aguero was embroiled in a nasty altercation with a fan, while in the tunnel at the interval, Guardiola lost it with Wigan coach Paul Cook in the wake of Fabian Delph's red card.

That evidently put the Catalan in a fiery mood, as the Telegraph have now revealed further details of what happened when he made it into the dressing room.

Pep went crazy

The newspaper claim that Guardiola took his anger out on Leroy Sane, to such an extent that the shouting could be heard outside.

Interestingly, the German international, who has generally been having the season of his life, was then substituted and replaced with Kyle Walker.

That change didn't have the desired effect, as the right-back's error allowed Grigg to score.

As for Sane, though, his team-mates were reportedly shocked by the telling off he was given, with his manager feeling he had come up short on two fronts.

Firstly, the 22-year-old was told he was not pulling his weight, while he was then berated for not following specific instructions in the first half.

The attacking midfielder may have chipped in with 11 goals and 12 assists over the course of the campaign, but this is not the first time Guardiola has taken issue with him.

As per the same source, the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich chief wasn't happy with Sane's pre-season efforts and also accused him of making "big mistakes" defensively after the cup win over Burnley in January.

It ought to give the starlet some food for thought going forward, even if Guardiola has had very little to complain about from his players this term.
