Arsenal fans who thought Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang would come in and fix all of their problems have been left sorely mistaken. The former Borussia Dortmund star, who joined the Gunners for a £56 million club record fee on the final day of the January transfer window, scored in a 5-1 victory on his debut - but that’s been the highlight of an otherwise difficult start to life at the Emirates Stadium.Aubameyang failed to make an impact on his second appearance for the club as Arsenal suffered a 1-0 defeat away at fierce local rivals Tottenham. His third appearance was also at Wembley - in Sunday’s 3-0 Carabao Cup final loss to Manchester City. The 28-year-old started against the same opponents this evening, this time at the Emirates in the Premier League, but was unable to help his side avoid another thrashing.Pep Guardiola’s side produced a magnificent first-half performance and had effectively wrapped up all three points inside the opening 45 minutes.

Aubameyang misses penalty v City

Arsenal had an opportunity to pull a goal back eight minutes after the restart but Aubameyang saw his penalty kick saved by the impressive Ederson.

Oh dear.

Didi Hamann burns Aubameyang with savage tweet

Shortly before Aubameyang’s penalty miss, during the half-time interval, former Liverpool and Germany midfielder Didi Hamann caused a stir with his brutal tweet about the striker.

“Glad Aubameyang finally got his wish to sign for a top club,” Hamann tweeted.

Burn.

What Aubameyang said before the match

Hamann was presumably mocking Aubameyang’s pre-match interview in Sky Sports in which he said Arsenal were a bigger club than Dortmund.

"It was the next step for me, it's a big club,” Arsenal’s record signing said. “For me it's a bit bigger than Dortmund, and this was a good step for me and my career. I didn't want to go, for example, to China, because I want to do a lot of things here in Europe before I think about China or America.

"Arsenal were the only club who made an offer, a real offer, and I'm really happy, because it's a good club."

Life comes at you fast.
